Well-tempered symmetric spaces

I will discuss a class of real symmetric spaces for which the support of the Plancherel measure admits a reasonably simple description in terms of characters of real tori. These spaces are all tempered in the sense of Benoist and Kobayashi. I shall also comment on the Fell topology of the Plancherel support, mostly in the special case where this topology is Hausdorff. This is joint work with Peter Hochs, Shintaro Nishikawa and Yanli Song.
