A look back to the second short scientific programme of 2023, "Random processes in the brain: from experimental data to math and back".

The six weeks long programme was the occasion for mathematicians, statisticians, experimental neurophysiologists and neurologists –scientists who rarely dwell in the same meetings– to come together and take time to build a constructive dialogue in the wonderful setting provided by the Institut Henri Poincaré. The focus was on cross-fertilization between scientific fields and scientific/practical problems rather than on mapping the current status of a "narrowly" defined scientific issue. Therefore, basic science questions at the level of networks of individual neurons were discussed as well as mathematical/statistical problems arising from the clinical treatment of patients suffering from Parkinson's disease or brachial plexus lesions.The Institut Henri Poincaré was an ideal setting for organising 3 weeks of conferences, courses, but also specific events, such as the "Mathematics-Industry" day, the Geomstats Hackathon week, as well as outreach talks and interactive workshops for high school students.

The very unique working atmosphere of IHP was again materialized through incessant discussions in the offices and almost daily seminars.

The scope and success of the programme owes a lot to its main architect, Professor Antonio Galves, who sadly passed away in September 2023.
