Rahul Pandharipande est professeur de géométrie algébrique au département de mathématiques de ETH Zürich. Ses travaux concernent « the moduli of curves, Gromov–Witten theory, and the moduli of sheaves ». Rahul Pandharipande a reçu the Clay Research Award en 2013. La même année, il a également été récipiendaire du prix Infosys en mathématiques, "in particular, for his work on Gromov–Witten theory for Riemann surfaces, for predicting the connection between Gromov–Witten and Donaldson-Thomas theories, and for his recent work with Aaron Pixton that establishes this connection for Calabi–Yau 3-folds".
