Recent developments in holography have put forward examples of spacetimes with disconnected closed components. In this talk, I will present some insights that have been obtained from attempts to understand the holographic emergence of such spacetimes, and in particular, their connection to the subtle nature of some large-N observables in AdS/CFT.
