Matrix Product Operators and Approximate Quantum Markov Chains

I discuss the problem of establishing the equivalence of matrix product operators and approximate quantum Markov chains. Although the general case is still open, I will show that the equivalence holds true classically. The argument uses ideas from dynamical systems, in particular finite size bounds to Oseledec's multiplicative ergodic theorem.
