In this talk I will highlight some milestones on my mathematical journey through the arithmetic of fields. These are typically placed at crossings of two or more of its major routes: model theory, valuation theory, Galois theory, number theory and geometry. On the way we will pass by some of the big open problems in the area looking for possible ways out.
